About

My name is Kate Gallagher, and I'm a senior at Liberty High School in Frisco, Texas. This year, I'm a part of the Independent Study and Mentorship program, which is a yearlong program that allows students to study their chosen field in depth by conducting interviews, conducting research, learning under a mentor, and eventually developing a product related to their field.

The field I have chosen to study this year is forensic psychology in family courts. Forensic psychologists work with the court, providing child custody evaluations, visitation risk assessments, adoption readiness evaluations, investigations of allegations of child abuse, and other related services to aid in cases related to family law. They may also provide other services, such as family and marriage counseling or individual therapy. Overall, they help families and judges determine which course of action is in the best interest of the child in respect to his or her psychological needs.
